Bears 17 Raiders 6

Walter Payton rushed for 111 yards and two touchdowns as the Chicago Bears defeated the Los Angeles Raiders 17-6 in a very physical game at Soldier Field. The Bears defense forced five turnovers, had nine sacks and knocked two Raider quarterbacks out of the game. The Raiders played physical as well knocking Jim McMahon out of the game. Marc Wilson started for the Raiders and was replaced by David Humm. After the Bears knocked Humm out of the game, the Raiders contemplated using punter Ray Guy at quarterback but Wilson returned. McMahon was sandwiched late in the first half. Played one play to start the third quarter and was replaced by Steve Fuller. Payton scored on runs of 18 and eight yards as the Bears built a 14-0 lead. Chris Bahr kicked two field goals for the Raiders that cut the lead to 14-6. Bob Thomas kicked a 29 yard field goal in the fourth quarter to finish off the scoring. The Bears improved to 7-3, while the Raiders dropped to 7-3.
