Steelers 17 Oilers 10

Frank Pollard ran for a touchdown and Cliff Stoudt threw for another as the Pittsburgh Steelers defeated the Houston Oilers 17-10 at Three Rivers Stadium. After a scoreless first quarter, Pollard opened the scoring with a one yard touchdown run. After an Oiler field goal, the Steelers led 7-3 at halftime. In the third quarter, Earl Campbell scored on a one yard run giving the Oilers a 10-7 lead as the game moved to the fourth quarter. In the final quarter, the Steelers took control. Stoudt threw a 51 yard touchdown pass to Walter Abercrombie and later Gary Anderson booted an 18 yard field goal. Stoudt completed just 5 or 12 passes for 108 yards. Franco Harris led the Steelers with 51 yards rushing on 16 carries. Ambercrombie rushed for 49 yards to go along with his 51 receiving yards. For the Oilers, Gifford Nielsen finished 13 of 28 for 155 yards but was intercepted three times. Campbell led all rushers with 69 yards on 26 carries.
