Roger Staubach threw for three touchdowns and ran for another as the Dallas Cowboys defeated the San Francisco 49ers 42-35 at Candlestick Park. Staubach threw touchdowns of 36 yards to Preston Pearson, twenty yards to Tony Dorsett, and twenty two yards to Butch Johnson. He also scored on a one yard run. Pearson and Dorsett each scored on runs as well. Pearson scored on a threw yard run and Dorsett on a 21 yard run. Dorsett also rushed for a game high 92 yards on 20 carries. For the 49ers, Bob Ferrell scored from a yard out and Jim Plunkett tossed four touchdown passes. He threw touchdowns of ten yards to Kenny Harrison, 27 yards to Gene Washington, a one yarder to Delvin Williams and a 47 yarder to Paul Seal. Washington led all receivers with 130 yards receiving. Plunkett was 15 of 29 for 263 yards with the four touchdowns. Staubach finished 14 of 19 for 220 yards as the Cowboys improved to 11-2.
